This weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is a freebie and I’ve decided to address the books that have been on my TBR pile the longest.
My To-Be-Read (TBR) pile is extensive! I could do a quick calculation of how many books I own that I have not yet read but I would be too embarrassed to share the number. Sometimes I feel guilty but otherwise I try to tell myself that book reading and book buying are two separate hobbies!
These are the books I have been hanging onto the longest without reading them. Not included are a few I no longer have any intention of reading. Also excluded are a number of books I have scheduled to read in the next year or two. Instead, this is a list of the books that at the time of writing have fallen through the cracks – I have owned them for years, still hope to read them, but have no immediate plans to.
Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Elizabeth the Queen by Alison Weir

The Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller

Candy by Luke Davies

The Rebel by Albert Camus
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Perfume by Patrick Süskind

The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles

Well out of those, I’d say Rebecca is easy to get into and not be able to stop, and Anne Frank is necessary. If that helps at all!

Thanks, I think it does help, every nudge helps especially from someone who knows

I’d also like to recommend Rebecca for an easy start. Found the netflix movie to be quite atmospheric as well.
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank was required reading in every German school I know of and as a young girl – haven’t reread it since then – it was cruel but beautifully written at the same time. It’s impossible not to empathise.
About “The Perfume”: I just remember it to be a gross read. 😀
The other books on your list I’ll take home as inspiration. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I find it a little strange that Perfume became so popular given, as you say, it sounds quite gross!
